About Us

Hey! Hello there!

We are Janice and Claire, two sisters from Comber, Northern Ireland.   We like making things, travelling, cats, loud music and spending time with friends and family (sometimes with beer).

After we discovered hand dyed yarn it wasn't long before we became hooked, we loved how the colours played together and the uniqueness of the finished items.  We wanted more and we wanted to know how this magic happened. So we went along to a yarn dyeing workshop and it was quickly clear this would become more than a hobby, we talked about yarn the whole way home, the colours we wanted to try, things we wanted to make and we haven't really stopped talking about them since (thankfully we have very understanding friends and families).  The very next week Giddy Aunt Yarns was in business!

Our Yarn

We love to experiment with different dyeing methods and new bases to keep things interesting. We find colour inspiration everyday and from many sources including nature, art, music, books, film, fashion, food, history & folklore.  We are always working on developing and introducing new repeatable colourways, but we often get distracted and like to experiment so many of our yarns will be one of a kind.  We like to call these 'Oddballs'.

We attend various yarn related events and craft fairs throughout the year, find a list of these on the events page. Feel free to stop by on Instagram or Facebook and say hello!
